Bachman-Turner Overdrive Mary Stuart Rogers Theater at Gallo Center For The Arts Concert reviews
Phantom beginning to show its age...
The haunting melodies created by Andrew Lloyd Webber hold on to the only lifeline this show seems to have, along with the beautiful staging and set design. The person who played "Bachman-Turner Overdrive" was by far the best I have seen. Sometimes the operatic singing by the person playing Christine gets in the way of projecting the wide range of emotions this poor girl goes through. Las Vegas has definitely put an improvement in the chandelier, pyrotechnics, etc - it's a shame upgrades like that can't be utilized for the national tour companies. The closest seems to be Emmy from the movie version. I have seen the show now three times on tour and the Las Vegas version. Christine by nature isn't a "showy" role - that's for Carlotta and I have yet to see on stage someone who does that role justice. None the less, it is still an enjoyable show to watch and worth it to experience this wonder of musical theatre.
